10 Gifts For Expecting Moms
Mama Mio Tummy Rub Oil - This all natural oil makes you feel luxurious and the 100% natural fragrance is intoxicating. I was gifted this oil from a family friend with exquisite taste for the finer things in life, and absolutely love it! This Mama Mio vegan, cruelty free omega rich natural oil makes the skin feel silky smooth and you don’t have to think twice about what ingredients you’re putting on your skin. One bottle was plenty and lasted my entire pregnancy.
Seraphine 3 in 1 Maternity Hoodie - If the mama in your life plans to baby wear, this sweatshirt by Seraphine Maternity is an essential closet staple that can be converted to regular street wear long after the baby has grown. It’s one of those maternity wear pieces that you can’t even tell is maternity! The sweatshirt is warm and thick with a comfortable stretch - both Mama and baby are sure to love it!
Maternity & Nursing Clothes - If this is their first child, it is likely they have not built up a maternity wardrobe yet. Oversized T-shirts are great but an article of clothing from a maternity wear line can go a long way for a mama to be. It’s amazing how a piece of clothing can add a sense of normalcy and dignity admist the body transformation that happens when pregnant. If you’re not sure what to get, you can’t go wrong with a set of comfy pajamas! Or if it’s a mama that’s close to you, a maternity or pumping bra like this one from Simple Wishes is always helpful and practical.
Baby Milestone Book - Give a mom the gift of recording precious memories in a book they can pass down to their little one. This was something I totally forgot to buy and wish I had it when my son was born so I could have started writing it in earlier. There is a book for almost every theme, I love this moon and star one from Carter’s that has a lot of space for pictures and goes month by month for the first year. Some of these books have space to record memories up to 5 years old, but that’s quite the baby journaling commitment!
Pregnancy Journal - I had never heard of this until it was given to me, and as someone that doesn’t do a lot of journaling I surprisingly really enjoyed filling this out during my pregnancy. Everyone knows pregnancy comes with a surge of hormones and rollercoaster emotions, so having a place to channel these new feelings and experiences can be healthy for the mind and help a pregnant mama take a break to sit and journal for the day. Check it out here: Pregnancy Journal
Frida Mom Kit - For the practical gift giver, this Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Kit includes many essentials that new moms can use for healing during those early postpartum days. The kit includes Disposable Underwear, Ice Maxi Absorbency Pads, Cooling Witch Hazel Medicated Pad Liners, and Perineal Medicated Healing Foam. For an upgrade you can purchase the Kit + Upside Down Peri Bottle which is a nice added luxury. The upside down peri bottle is squirt bottle with an angled hose that helps clean the hard to reach areas.
Postpartum Ice Packs - If the Frida Mom Kits price point is a little hefty but you want to give a mom a gift of healing and convenience she can truly use, these postpartum ice packs by Medline promote healing and recovery and can be used for both vaginal and c-section births. While it is entirely possible to make ice packs at home, these pre-made disposable ice packs make life super easy and convenient, which is what new moms need! As a nurse and a new mom, I highly recommend these and will be buying more for my next delivery.
Restaurant Gift Card - Treat the mom to be and their partner to one last date night before the hard work of caring for a newborn begins! A restaurant gift card can provide pregnant mamas and new moms with easy nutrition and a night free of dishes and cooking. As an added bonus you can help support local businesses by purchasing gift cards from small, family run restaurants.
Newborn Photo Session - For those who really want to splurge, a newborn photo session can give parents the gift of keepsake photos for a lifetime! It may be helpful to ask the mama ahead of time if she already has something planned or booked, and if she doesn’t you can offer to set up the booking and the mama can choose the date. Many newborn photographers do in-home sessions which is something to keep in mind. The internet and Facebook are great tools to find a professional newborn photographer near you, and make sure you check out their portfolio work to ensure their style is the right fit!
Prenatal Massage - We all know that pregnancy comes with added hormones and stress on the body, and a therapeutic massage is one way to help relieve some of the stress and muscle tension that builds up in the body. I recommend checking with the mama first to make sure it is something she is comfortable with, and if she is you can ask if she has a place she goes to or find a reputable massage therapist in your area that specializes in prenatal massages.
