Sleepsack Swaddles - Now say that 3 times fast. Whether you’re a swaddling pro or a newbie, these Sleep Sack Swaddles by Halo are every exhausted parent’s new best friend at 2 am. The innovative design streamlines the swaddling process and practically guarantees a perfect swaddle every time. It’s both a swaddle and sleep sack combined into one, so as they get older you can slowly transition their arms out of the swaddle. Babies cannot be swaddled once they start rolling (around 4-6 months), so I recommend buying a smaller size (newborn or 0-3 months) to ensure they get a chance to use it! I love the micro fleece and cotton options for winter and summer babies respectively.

Two Way Zipper Outfits - If you are going to put clothes on your registry, these should be the first thing you add! As much as I would have loved to dress my newborn fashionably from head to toe, most days in the early postpartum period are a struggle just to eat and shower in between caring for the baby. That is why I love anything that can make life easier during those first few months. I was gifted these two-way zipper outfits and they made diaper changes a breeze when we were changing 10-12 newborn diapers daily. We will definitely be buying some more of these to add to the wardrobe if baby #2 ever becomes a thing.

Extra Sheets - An extra sheet or two for both the crib and bassinet is always helpful. I cannot tell you how many times I went to use the bassinet and had to stop to change the sheet because it was wet. Having a clean sheet ready to go saved us from daily laundry and even if you enjoy daily laundry, a backup sheet will probably be needed at some point. Pro tip: If you are using both a changing pad and bassinet, the changing pad sheets are usually interchangeable with bassinet sheets.

Baby Manicure Set - I had never heard of this until my mom generously gifted one to me. This electric manicure set takes away the stress of clipping baby’s nails. It is safe and effective, and has file adapters for all ages including adult size! Once the baby’s nails are done you can manicure yours too all with the same tool. We have been very pleased with this amazon find and it is one of our go-to gifts for newly expecting parents!

Bottle Brush - skip the regular old plastic baby brush and splurge on this heavy duty, steel handle brush made by Hydro Flask - it will last way longer! I was very impressed with the quality of these brushes, and I love the mini loop brush that comes with the set - it is perfect for cleaning the small breast pump parts.

Stain Remover - It is no secret babies are professional mess makers. Keep a bottle of this stain remover next to the babies dirty laundry basket and you’ll save time by making sure every stain gets saturated before it hits the wash. I’ve found it works best if you spray directly onto fresh stains, and sometimes I’ll do it twice to hopefully avoid having to scrub the stain out later.

Kinderfluff Window Shades - I spend a ridiculous amount of time researching items before I buy, and these highly rated Kinderfluff Tinted window shades did not disappoint. They work so well I actually had to stop using the semi-transparent ones because I could not see part of my blindspots. If you are concerned about keeping the sun out of the babies eyes in the car and looking for a window shade that actually stays on the window, get these - and maybe get the transparent ones.

Ubbi Diaper Pail - Diapers smell. A lot. Most diaper genies force you to buy special kinds of trash bags which I believe are just another unnecessary expense and item to add to the shopping list. What sets the Ubbi apart from its counterparts is its compact design made of steel and compatibility with any regular trash bags. I’ve seen people complain that diaper genies hit you with a wave of stank when you change the bag - but that’s the whole point. It keeps the smell in, until you remove the bag. Buy cheap bags (I like the 8 gallon bags from the Dollar Store) and change it frequently to keep odor at bay.

Bottle Warmer - Regardless of whether you plan to breast or formula feed, you should strongly consider adding a bottle warmer to your baby registry. It quickly became an essential for us only a short few weeks after trying to live without one. We thought we could easily use a hot cup of water to warm a bottle but every second feels like a minute when a child is screaming because they’re hungry and you can’t heat up the bottle fast enough. If you use breastmilk make sure the warmer is made for breastmilk, as I learned not all warmers are safe to use and can destroy the breastmilk’s nutritive properties. We use this MilkSPA warmer from Dr. Brown’s every day. All the settings and buttons can be intimidating at first but once you read the manual it is easy. Don’t forget to leave the quick-tip instruction sheet out for the babysitter!

Play Mat - Not sure how to keep a newborn entertained? These play mats are a great way for your little one to keep themselves entertained while they rest safely on the floor. I regretted not putting this on my registry and finally bought one a month after my son was born. I thought I could get away with just a blanket on the floor but it was simply just not the same. Luckily he has gotten every penny’s worth out of this mat. It’s lightweight and portable and I especially love the high contrast black and white style. Fun fact: newborn’s can only see black, white, and shades of gray for the first few months.
